About Our Wines
At Von Jakob, we take great pride in our wines. Many of them have received medals in national and international competitions. On average you will find around 20 styles wines available in our Tasting Room for tasting and purchasing.
Our wines range from dry complex reds to sweet fruity dessert wines. We pride ourselves on our extensive and well rounded wine selection. As well, we were the first winery in the state of Illinois to produce a White Oak Port, this wine has won multiple medals at various competitions including California. We are also proud to be the first grower and producer of a Cabernet Sauvignon. Our 2000 Cabernet which was released in the spring of 2003, was a limited edition and a big hit.
On average, depending on the growing season, we produce roughly 100 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon every year and as a result the only place to purchase this wine is at the winery itself.
ABOUT OUR BEER & HARD CIDER
We are truly enjoying our newest adventure: brewing. Opened in 2010, our brewery boasts eight styles of handcrafted beers as well as seasonal batches. In addition, we are in the process of bottling a number of our beers that are currently only available for purchase at the brewery and will soon be available throughout Southern Illinois.
We began making hard cider at the beginning of 2012 and released our first batch in the summer of that same year. Paul Jacobs, owner of Von Jakob and maker of the hard cider states, “It has been something we’ve wanted to do for a while. We have the apple orchards, we have the equipment, we already have a Jonathan apple wine; so it just made sense.”
